Terence (Terry) Balgobin

I am the owner and operator of Artistry in Gold, an independent retail jewellery store serving downtown Red Deer for over 30 years. In addition to being a long-term small business owner, I am also a commercial and residential property owner in Red Deer. This dual perspective gives me firsthand insight into business operations, investment risk, tenant sustainability, and the broader economic factors that impact both entrepreneurs and property stakeholders. 

Operating a retail business and managing rental properties has required strategic planning, financial oversight, risk management, and long-term vision. I understand the importance of sound governance, responsible budgeting, and policies that encourage investment while strengthening our local economy. My experience navigating changing market conditions has reinforced the value of collaboration, adaptability, and proactive economic leadership. 

Beyond business, I have demonstrated leadership in the non-profit sector. I am an active Rotarian, past president of the Red Deer Leeds Executive Association, past president of Habitat for Humanity’s board, and a long-term board member of Parkland C.L.A.S.S. These roles have strengthened my experience in policy governance, strategic decision-making, and advocacy. 

I am committed to supporting initiatives that foster a vibrant, competitive, and business-friendly Red Deer. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute practical experience, entrepreneurial insight, and community-focused leadership to the Board of Directors of the Red Deer D.R.I.V.E. Economic Development Association.
