Strategic Intelligence Researcher / Consulting Partner4–6 Month Contract | Red Deer, Alberta | Hybrid / FlexibleAbout D.R.I.V.E.D.R.I.V.E. (Developing Regional Innovation, Ventures & Entrepreneurship ) is focused on strengthening Central Alberta’s economy through investment attraction, business expansion, regional collaboration and innovation.As a new and evolving economic development organization, D.R.I.V.E. is exploring how emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and better use of data can improve how we identify opportunities, make decisions and support businesses across the region.The OpportunityD.R.I.V.E. is seeking either an individual researcher or qualified consulting company to support a series of strategic research, data and artificial intelligence initiatives over a 4–6 month contract.This is not primarily a software development or programming assignment. The focus is on research, data collection and analysis, identifying practical AI opportunities, evaluating available tools and helping D.R.I.V.E. determine where new technologies can improve its economic development and organizational activities.The successful individual or consulting team will work closely with the CEO and may also help D.R.I.V.E. define requirements for future technology solutions that could be developed by specialized programmers or technology partners.Scope of WorkThe successful researcher or consulting company may assist D.R.I.V.E. with:Conducting industry, company, market and economic research.Collecting, organizing and analyzing data from multiple public and private sources.Identifying companies, sectors and emerging opportunities relevant to investment attraction and business expansion.Developing and maintaining research databases, company profiles and lead-generation information.Identifying new or underutilized data sources that can improve D.R.I.V.E.’s market intelligence.Exploring how AI can improve research, lead generation, data analysis, stakeholder intelligence and internal workflows.Testing and evaluating existing AI platforms, automation tools and emerging technologies.Identifying practical AI use cases that can be implemented quickly and cost-effectively.Helping define requirements, data needs and workflows for more advanced AI solutions.Researching best practices being used by economic development organizations, investment attraction agencies and other innovative organizations.Developing dashboards, research summaries, briefing materials and decision-support tools.Providing recommendations on how D.R.I.V.E. can build its internal research, data and AI capabilities over time.
Experience and QualificationsD.R.I.V.E. is open to proposals from individual professionals, independent consultants, research firms, technology advisory firms or multidisciplinary consulting teams.Relevant expertise may include:Strategic and market researchData analytics and business intelligenceArtificial intelligence and emerging technologyEconomic development or investment attractionCompetitive intelligenceBusiness analyticsData visualizationCRM and lead-generation systemsProcess automationTechnology strategy
Experience with tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, Power BI, CRM platforms, databases, Excel, SQL, Python, APIs or automation platforms would be considered an asset.Advanced programming capability is not required, although the ability to work effectively with programmers, technology vendors or AI developers would be beneficial.What D.R.I.V.E. Is Looking ForWe are looking for an individual or consulting partner that can:Ask strong questions and quickly understand complex business challenges.Find, validate and analyze information from multiple sources.Translate data and research into practical recommendations.Understand both the capabilities and limitations of artificial intelligence.Identify realistic opportunities rather than simply recommending technology for technology’s sake.Work independently while collaborating closely with D.R.I.V.E. leadership.Bring forward new ideas, tools and approaches that D.R.I.V.E. may not yet be considering.
Contract ApproachD.R.I.V.E. is open to different delivery models, including:An individual researcher working on a contract basis.An independent consultant.A consulting firm providing a dedicated researcher or project team.A combination of on-site and remote support.
