Jesse Smith

Tourism Red Deer

CEO

I bring a strong public-sector perspective and a strategic, community-centered approach to economic development governance. My career has focused on regional tourism development and event attraction — sectors that directly contribute to job creation, business growth, infrastructure utilization, and community investment within a growing regional hub. I view tourism as a catalyst for broader economic development. Major events, conferences, and visitation strategies stimulate local spending, strengthen small businesses, enhance community profile, and attract future investment. Through my work, I have supported initiatives aligned with municipal economic development priorities, ensuring tourism strategies are integrated into long-term regional growth plans.

I understand how policy governance frameworks clarify the role of boards in setting direction, monitoring performance, and ensuring accountability. My experience includes contributing to strategic planning, business planning, budget alignment, funding strategy, and performance measurement to ensure initiatives are financially responsible and results-driven. Working closely with municipal leaders and regional stakeholders has strengthened my understanding of public accountability, regulatory considerations, and risk management in publicly supported initiatives. I value transparency and governance structures that safeguard both public trust and organizational effectiveness.

I have demonstrated leadership by convening diverse partners, facilitating strategic discussions, and advancing collaborative initiatives that enhance regional competitiveness and investment readiness. As an advocate, I confidently champion economic priorities with municipal councils, provincial representatives, and industry stakeholders. With an entrepreneurial mindset, I focus on identifying opportunity, leveraging partnerships, and maximizing long-term community return on investment to support sustainable regional prosperity.
