Red Deer D.R.I.V.E (RDD) is seeking an experienced senior leader to serve as CEO during our initial start-up phase. The CEO will help RDD with the initial formation of the organization, ensuring key operational targets are established and the organization’s strategic goals can be actively pursued. This position is anticipated to be between 3-6 months in duration and will see the CEO work closely with the newly appointed Board of Directors, our membership and key stakeholders. During this period, RDD will be actively seeking a permanent CEO via a nationwide search. The successful candidate for the current CEO position is entitled to apply for the permanent CEO position.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Manage day-to-day business operations, assist the Board with initial set-up activities for RDD, and help to set up a sustainable and well-managed structure that will be built upon by the permanent CEO and future RDD employees.

  • Strategic Direction: Support the Board with initial Key Performance Indicator (KPI) selection, Business Plan development and ensuring alignment exists between RDD’s strategic direction and the Grant Agreement document developed in partnership with the City of Red Deer.

  • Board Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Board of Directors on performance, risks, and organizational health.

  • Membership & Stakeholder Management: Act as a conduit to both the broader RDD membership and key stakeholders, engaging with businesses, community partners, potential investors, and government officials.

  • Board Stewardship: Motivate, support, and lead the Board as they undertake the key initial phases of setting up RDD and its strategic priorities.

  • Risk Management: Oversee compliance and manage risks to reputation and performance. 

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a C-level executive or in a senior management role.

  • Strong understanding of the Red Deer D.R.I.V.E mission, and its mandate/responsibilities as a business-led economic development initiative.

  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, mentor, and motivate Boards and wider memberships.

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and legal obligations. 

  • Understanding of Economic Development best practice, and how an Economic Development Agency functions effectively in the broader community, business, investment and political environments.

 

Duration

This is a temporary position and is anticipated to last for between 3 and 6 months, with the option for additional month-to-month continuation should the recruitment of the permanent CEO take longer than anticipated.
